Why you should integrate Workplace with Microsoft Teams

Discover how the Workplace integration with Microsoft Teams helps communicators, managers, and employees connect across tools.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations have become more dispersed than ever—both physically and digitally. To power remote and hybrid collaboration, companies are investing in more tools than ever. This means employees are constantly switching between tools to find information, and often, important messages fall through the cracks.
Workplace integrations can help internal communicators ensure that important communications reach everyone—regardless of what tools they spend their work day on. They also help showcase Workplace’s value across various platforms, bringing more people to Workplace, where they can build community, discover important content, and connect with their coworkers.
This guide will walk you through what the Workplace integration with Microsoft Teams can do, and how it benefits communicators, managers and employees
How the integration works
How the integration works
The Workplace integration with Microsoft Teams works in two ways:
  1. Microsoft Teams admins can pin the Workplace integration to the Teams sidebar
    • This showcases Workplace for everyone in their Teams instance
    • Once they login to Workplace within Teams, they will see an abridged version of their News Feed and will be able to view, react to, and comment on posts directly within Teams
    • They will also see any posts that have been marked as important highlighted at the top of their News Feed
  2. Microsoft Teams users can add a Workplace group feed to a tab in a Teams channel
    • This spotlights particular Workplace groups for everyone who is in that channel by pulling a feed of posts from that group directly into a tab of that channel

What it means for communicators

Meet Nora. Nora works with the People team at Fox Fabrics. She is responsible for sharing all company communications with the organization. There’s a new benefit available, and she wants to make sure everyone is aware.
She’ll start by creating a post in Workplace and marking it as important. Her organization has the Microsoft Teams integration enabled, with Workplace pinned to the side bar in Teams. Her important post will automatically show up at the top of the Workplace integration for Microsoft Teams. Employees can log in and see that post and any other post that was marked as important at the top, followed by an abridged version of their News Feed from within Teams.
This allows Nora to feel confident that employees can learn about their new benefits from within other tools that they spend their work day on. And since employees can read, react to posts and comment within Teams, Nora can understand employee sentiment to her announcements no matter where they are.

Now, meet Layla, a supply chain manager who uses the Workplace integration with Microsoft Teams to help her team stay up to date on important information being shared on Workplace.
Layla cares about developing her team and wants to showcase content from Workplace groups that are relevant to her team’s work. She syncs those critical Workplace groups to tabs of the Teams channel she has with her reports. Each Tab contains the latest 10 posts from one Workplace group that she wants her team to see. Now, they can easily stay up-to-date on posts shared in those groups.

Rahim is an IT specialist who relies on Microsoft Teams to collaborate with coworkers and get his day-to-day work done. With the Microsoft Teams integration, Rahim no longer has to switch between tools to get critical updates and important information shared on Workplace. Once he has read the top posts from within Teams he continues onto Workplace to discover more.
Enabling him to access Workplace content from Microsoft Teams, makes it easier than ever for Rahim to stay connected across platforms, and encourages him to engage in conversations happening on Workplace.
